Every year, the Merriam-Webster dictionary highlights a list of word that a lot of people searched for in the past year. This was 2022's, for example:

There are usually about 10 words per year.

I am begging you, please do not add really stupid stuff that has zero chance of being a word of the year, because there are a limited number of options per market. If you put a slur or something offensive or incredibly dumb, I will erase the option and shame you.

Resolution rules:

This is an unlinked free response market. Anyone can submit an answer, and if that answer is one the 2025 words of the year it will resolve Yes. If the word is very close, such as "Indict" to "Indictment", it will also resolve Yes. Otherwise, it will resolve No.

Meowdy! The Merriam-Webster 2025 Words of the Year will likely reflect cultural and linguistic trends from 2024. Given the pervasiveness of AI talk, I expect at least some words linked to AI to show up—options mentioning “at least 2 words” or “at least 3 words are clearly related to AI” look promising. Words like AGI or Superintelligence also seem plausible given ongoing discussions. Gen Z slang and stuff related to Taylor Swift might sneak in, but I’m less sure about those. The political terms like fascist or tariff are always candidates, but I don’t see a clear current spike this year. “6-7” as a word is very unlikely—it’s just a number combo, no way it makes the list. Pickleball might have some buzz but probably not enough for Word of the Year. I’ll bet more confidently on the AI-related sets and a moderate bet on the Gen Z slang cluster.
